There are some events you attend simply to trade, and then there are events that remind you exactly why you started your small business in the first place.
Last weekend marked our second visit to Kent's Magical Market & Fantasy Ball in Faversham, and once again it proved why it has become one of our favourite events on the calendar.
From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere was exactly what you'd hope for from a fantasy market. Visitors wandered through beautifully decorated halls dressed as witches, fae, elves, adventurers and everything in between, while incredible independent artists and makers filled every corner with handcrafted treasures.
A Community Rather Than Just a Market
One of the things that makes this event stand out is the community behind it.
Running a small creative business can often feel like you're working away in your own little workshop, but weekends like this remind us that we're part of something much bigger. Instead of competition, there's genuine encouragement. Stallholders share advice, celebrate each other's successes, recommend neighbouring stalls to customers and help one another throughout the weekend.
That sense of community is something you don't find everywhere, and it's one of the reasons we're always excited when this event comes around.
Meeting Fellow Fantasy Lovers
As Fire & Aether continues to grow into the dark fantasy jewellery brand we've always envisioned, events like Kent's Magical Market allow us to meet the people our jewellery is truly made for.
We loved chatting with visitors about mythology, folklore, gothic aesthetics, fantasy worlds and the inspiration behind our collections. Hearing which pieces caught people's eye and seeing customers connect with the stories behind them is one of the most rewarding parts of attending these events.
Many of you were seeing our evolving brand for the first time, while others recognised us from previous markets and came back to see what was new. That support means more than you probably realise.
Surrounded by Incredible Creators
Every aisle was packed with talented makers creating everything from fantasy artwork and handmade crafts to costumes, home décor, candles, books and magical curiosities.
It's impossible not to leave feeling inspired after spending two days surrounded by so many passionate creatives.
Supporting independent artists has always been important to us, and if you ever attend one of these markets, we'd encourage you to take your time, talk to the makers and discover the stories behind what they create. Every stall represents countless hours of creativity, learning and dedication.
